Herbal Bath Tea Bags

To make your own bath teas try this. You can always use different herbs. You can get pre-made muslin tea bags or use cheese cloth. To make the little cheese cloth bag you have to make a little folded packet and sew it together.

You can also use a bit of string to tie up the top instead, as you will be throwing this away after you use it.

Ingredients: 1/2 cup of grated ginger root.
2 tbs of dried lemon verbena
2 tbs of dried chamomile
2 tbs of dried Lavender
2 tbs of dried lemon balm
2 tbs of dried sweet marjoram
2 tbs of grated goldenseal root
2 tbs dried plantain leaves
fresh or dried rosemary sprigs
fresh or dried of any mints.

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and then place into the bag. Place into you hot bath.

BASIC TEA BAG INSTRUCTIONS

Materials Needed

1. Material for making bags.

These can be old socks, knee-high nylons, hand-sewn bags, cotton washcloths, pieces of muslin or an unused coffee filter.

2. Herbs, Spices and Teas.

Good choices for herbs and spices include lavender, peppermint leaves, sage, rosemary, thyme, chamomile, lemon balm, spearmint leaves, calendula, rosemary, comfrey, rose petals, lemon grass, and yarrow.

Other good ingredients include premade tea mixtures, epsom salts, oatmeal, and essential oils.

If you don't have alot of these types of ingredients around your home, bulk herbs are available from health food stores or eBay is an excellent source.

Choose your herbs, spices, etc according to the desired effect.

Directions:

1. Mix equal parts of your chosen herbs. Add a couple drops of essential oil if desired.

2. Create a "tea bag" of your choice.
- Muslin Bag (2 inches by 4 inches long)
- Dark color washcloth (some herbs may stain light colors)
- Old sock
- Knee-high nylon stocking
- Coffee Filter (fold in half and then fold sides inward and staple)

3. Place a large spoonful of oatmeal in the bottom of your bag - this will soften the skin.

4. Place a handful of the herbal mixture in your tea bag.

5. Tie tea bag closed with string, or a rubber band and ribbon. If you are using a coffee filter, fold top down and staple closed (This tends to look just like a real tea bag).

6. Tie your "tea bag" onto your water spout while the tub is filling, or just toss it into the bath like a regular tea bag.

7. Enjoy! Scrub yourself with the bag and squeeze it often to release the oils from the herbs.

Even though these bags are only good for one bath, you'll find that you'll never want to get out of the tub. Either throw the "tea bag" away after using it or put the spent herbs into the compost pile or use to mulch your plants.

Tub Tea Bags

Makes approximately 16 tea bags

1/2 yard fusible interfacing

iron
piece of scrap card board 3 1/4" x 7"
An assortment of your favorite dried aromatic herbs totaling about 5 cups.
One of your choices will be the "base" herb and you will need more of that herb.
I used Peppermint as the base herb, Patchouli, Orange Rind, Lavender and Rosebuds.

Prepare the bag:

Cut interface into rectangles 4" x 5 1/2" and assemble in pairs with fusible sides together.
Set iron to cotton setting. Slip cardboard inside the pair leaving the interfacing touching about 1/2" on 3 sides.
Iron the 3 edges quickly to fuse.
Slide cardboard out and continue to the next pair.

Add filling for the bag:

2 pinches Peppermint
1 pinch each Patchouli, Orange Rind, Lavender and 5-6 Rosebuds
Close and seal bag by ironing /2" of the top edge. Trim any irregular edges.

To Use:

Toss a bag into your bath water and let it steep along with you!
